Apparently this etched image of a fly on a urinal is phenomenally successful in improving men’s aim when urinating. The fly reduced “spillage” by 80%.

I originally found this image at Way Odd. Fairly amusing, I thought. And then I looked into it a bit further.

Turn out this pic has been circulating the internet since 1997 - that’s ten years, folks! Is it an urban myth? Well, no, actually. Turns out there really is a fly in a urinal at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam and yes, it does help the cleaners out.

Still, one can’t help but wonder whether a plain black dot mightn’t work just as well as the lifelike image of a housefly, and, if not, what exactly does that reveal about masculine psychology?

The urinal fly has proved so enduring that someone even has a business selling fly stickers for urinals.
